Ms. G’s, Potts Point, Sydney

HELLO KIDS. So last week I went to the infamous Ms. G’s in Potts Point with a friend of mine who’s actually Chef Dan Hong’s sister in law (how cool is that? WE GOT FREEBIES!) Anyway, I’ve been wanting to try this place out since last semester, but didn’t have the chance to do so til just recently. Anyhoo, ON TO THE FOOD.

They serve their cocktails in bubble tea plastic cups! How cute.

BY FAR MY FAVORITE DISH OF ALL :

Mexican-style Corn on the cob: with mayonnaise, chili sauce and cheese. OMG THIS IS SO GOOD.

SCALLOPS:

The banh-mi:

Pro Tip: The chicken katsu ones are better than the pork belly.

For main course, duck noodle! :

with XO Sauce. The photo really isn’t doing it any justice.

The most popular dish for dessert is the ‘Stoner’s Delight’: with deep fried mars bars, donut ice cream, banana fritters, and candied bacon. BUT, I prefer the Ginger Beer Granita (I think that’s what it’s called), just cos I’m not so much a dessert person, and the Granita isn’t too sweet, more refreshing:

Btw sorry for the bad quality of the pics, it was dark and I HAD to use flash :(

Enjoy!

P.S. Make sure you come early if you wanna have dinner here, cos they don’t take bookings.

El Loco, Surry Hills, Sydney

Hi Guys, SO. Last week I went to Sydney’s infamous Mexican cantina, El Loco. This is probably the first time I’ve ever had REAL tacos (none of that Taco Bell shiz) and it tastes amazing (also at $5 per taco!). Order the Secret Taco (I think that’s what it’s called), it’s taco with deep fried lamb brains and corn. Look at it:

Also, if it happens to be available, make sure you get the Churros, which was the HIGHLIGHT of my meal. It doesn’t taste like any other churros cos the inside’s really soft, almost gooey (in a good way).

ANDDD the Jalapeno Margarita does not only have bits of Jalapeno peppers as garnish, it also contains a dash of “illegal mezcal” (I dunno either, but it sounds badass).

PEACE!

Botanica, Hunter Valley, NSW

While my mother was here we went to a day trip to a suburb in NSW that specializes in vineyards, so we went and checked out Botanica Restaurant.

clockwise from left: Mushroom Soup with Pancetta (amuse bouche), Orange Creme with Cookie Crumbs and Chocolate Cigar (dessert), Beef Fillet (main), and Duck Liver Pate (entree)

The best dish was definitely the beef fillet, it had all these mushrooms that came along with it, man that was good. I remember savoring all the dishes, but in retrospect I’m sure there are better steakhouses and wineries in Sydney. I do suggest coming here with your folks or on a super-romantic-date, cos it’s pretty formal (and expensive, especially the wine).

The Corner House, Sydney

If you do decide to visit The Corner House at Bondi Beach, go on a Sunday evening. It’s when they have their Sunday roast, and lucky for me, this month (week?)’s roast meat is 5-hour cooked lamb shoulder, complete with sides. When you come over, though, make sure you made a reservation, and don’t come in too late, otherwise they would have ran out of the roast. I read about this place in a magazine, commending it for its cocktails, so I naturally didn’t expect much of the food.

After:

The ‘after’ picture was taken literally 10 minutes after the food arrived (I shared it with my dad, cos the dish is for 2). It was the best dish I’ve ever had in Sydney.

ps. Photos are all edited by Patricia

Enjoy !

Maya Da Dhaba, Sydney

Maya Da Dhaba has quickly become my favorite Indian restaurant in Sydney. The food is so good! We ordered the Biryani Rice, Chicken Tandoori, Chicken Tikka Masala, and my favorite, Palak Paneer (Cottage cheese with spinach puree).

Papadum (Indian-style crackers)

Chicken Tandoori

Biryani Rice (SO GOOD)

Yoghurt and mint chutney for the tandoori and rice

Chicken Tikka Masala (front), and Palak Paneer

We left STUFFED. If you’re in Sydney and looking for legitimately delicious Indian food, visit Maya Da Dhaba at Surry Hills.

Cheerios,
