Shi Lin, BGC

So I wanted to look at the pictures from my Shi Lin article, only to find out that I had never published it! Which I find bizarre because I just know that I wrote it ages ago. I don’t know. Maybe the interwebs swallowed it up. *sigh*

I swear I had written and published it! Or maybe it already is published and I just couldn’t find it, which would be embarrassing…but probably not. *sigh* Ok I’ll move on. So one of the places I went to when I was in Manila this summer was Shi Lin, which is a Taiwanese cuisine restaurant. I had heard about Shi Lin from the people at the agency I was interning at. I had my chance to eat at Shi Lin after a work thing one of my supervisors and I did and we had lunch.

Since it’s been ages since I actually took these pictures, I can’t remember exactly the names of what we ordered. Top left is the porkchop, which was delicious. And then you have the xiao long bao, steamed dim sum, which is like Shi Lin’s specialty or best-seller or something, and for good reason because it’s really good. This is how you eat it like a pro:

  1. You put the xiao long bao in your soup spoon (like in the lower left picture) and if you like, you can include the soy sauce that comes with it. I suggest you should because it’s really good. In fact, that soy sauce was one of the highlights of my meal.
  2. Poke a hole in the xiao long bao with your chopstick and then suck out the soup from within the xiao long bao.
  3. Eat the xiao long bao!

Lastly, we have the vegetables, which for the life of me I can’t remember! I think it was spinach? I don’t know, I don’t know my vegetables. I’m sufficiently embarrassed now…But anyways, I really liked the spinach as well. I usually have only a bit of the vegetable dishes at the beginning of the meal and ignore them, but I remember finishing that spinach.

Anyhoo, it was a great meal. Our total bill was around P500, which at the time I thought was affordable but right now having absolutely no money in my pocket, I realise it’s actually a bit pricey for having only ordered three dishes and a bowl of rice for each. However, you can just go for the xiao long bao because it really is that good. Plus it’s fun poking at it and stuff. :D

Shi Lin can be found in the Commercenter Building, 4th Ave. corner 31st St., Bonifacio Global City.

Pepper.ph | ZOMG: Flaming Wings Ripped Off Logo of New York Restaurant ⇢

While we were doing a post on Flaming Wings’ iconic and super-famous Wicked Oreos, we stumbled upon this “coincidence.”

In Pepper.ph, we all unanimously agree that this little university joint is an awesome place with fairly-priced food; but this just ain’t right.

What do you think? Share us your thoughts!

[Pepper.ph]

When I was in Manila recently, Bea brought me to Flaming Wings as it was one of her favourite places to eat around UP, and I really liked the food, plus everything was so affordable. But seriously though, the next time you guys go to Flaming Wings, kindly tell them the jig is up. For this reason alone I would boycott the place.

Saturday Market-ing at Salcedo

So just this weekend I, along with one of my ‘bosses’ from my internship, went to the weekend market at Salcedo Village in Makati. The trip was more business than pleasure, so I wasn’t able to try out as many food stalls as I could. But it was fun, anyway.

—————

Loubna Piega’s Moroccan Cuisine

The first stall we went to was this one serving healthy Moroccan cuisine. I tried the b’stilla (pronounced “ba-stee-ya”) which I really liked because it was both sweet and savoury. It’s basically like a mini chicken pie of sorts, but it also has cinnamon and sugar powder on it. Really good. Each one was P45.00.

—————

Picolé Healthy Ice Pops

Read a lot about this place online before we went to the market, so I was excited to see them there. I got the natural yogu pops because I felt like froyo that day. It was…exactly like froyo, but emphasis on the fro LOL. The one I got was P35.00 but I think different flavours have different prices. Check out their website here.

My Goodness

Lastly, we tried cookies from My Goodness. They were your typical ‘healthy’ cookies in that they have no added sugar and are low calorie. Pretty good, though. Wish we tried more. The ones we tried were the oatmeal. Anyways, here’s their website.

—————

Most, if not all, of the stalls offer free samples of their products so that can give you a chance to try them out before buying anything.

As you can see from the first two pictures, there are way more stalls in this weekend market. If you want to try Moroccan cuisine, Picole, My Goodness and other stalls, go to the weekend market in Tordesillas Park, Salcedo Village in Makati; Saturdays, between 7 am - 2 pm. Don’t hesitate to ask around where it is if you get lost because it’s pretty well-known and chances are the locals will know where it is. Cab drivers will definitely know it.

Professed Pinoy foodies should not go without having gone to a weekend market in Manila at least once!
