I discovered Kou Cuisine’s Caramel Jam a few months ago, when my mom brought one jar back from Bali. The packaging was very cute; a tiny jar topped with a paper cover all wrapped in rubber. It basically screams “we are local, independent and definitely not commercialized!” so I was immediately intrigued.
I started off with just a tiny spoonful of jam. Then I took another one. And another. And another. Basically it was really good. It taste a little creamy, which makes it different than other caramels. It also has bits of coarse sugar that makes the texture unique. The creamy flavor also makes it very versatile to mix for desserts, such as for Banoffee, plain bread topping and ice cream topping.
At the back of the jar, the ingredients simply lists sugar and condensed milk. Makes sense. It is also lovely to know that they only use simple ingredients, without preservatives and other bad chemicals.
Since I couldn’t find Kou Cuisine’s website and never visited the actual store, I referred to another review of Kou by Chuzai Living and found out that it sells other jams, such as mangoes and strawberries, and also salt. All the products are also hand made!
I am definitely visiting this place when I am back in Bali!
