Momofuku Noodle Bar, NYC

Like Fatty Crab, this has become one of my favorite restaurants in New York City. Also like Fatty Crab, Momofuku Noodle Bar is an Asian fusion restaurant, which means that the food is mainly inspired by Asian food, but altered into a more modern and Westernized approach.

This last trip was my third time in this particular Momofuku (there are about three Momofukus in NYC, including the Milk Bar), and the taste and quality of the food is still as exceptional as my first visit!

I went here with a friend and we decided to share everything. The first thing we ordered was the Pork Bun, which was really moist and juicy! I don’t care how unhealthy it is, it’s DELICIOUS!

Then we shared the chicken wings with some crack sauce and also a soft-shell crab, which was pretty okay. I think we scored big when we found out that our crab has eggs in it!

The last thing we ordered was the ramen noodle. It was amazing!!! It had a mix of pork cutlets, medium-cooked boiled egg, seaweed and other sorts of goodies.

My friend and I found out that we share the same taste in light beer, so we asked the waiter for a recommendation of a local beer. White Rascal was a really good one made in Brooklyn. It was so good that we even ordered another one!

Try this one out!

Momofuku Milk Bar, NYC

The best over-priced dessert place in NYCCCCC. Oh man!

This one is one of the cake truffles, called B’Day Cake Truffle. It’s a consumable cookie dough. I’m not sure if we can actually cook it in the oven and make a cookie, because I actually just thought of this idea. Will let you know as soon as I can get my hands around more of this crack!

This one is the Cereal Milk, a milk that tastes like your typical Corn Flake cereal. It is heaven.

I believe for a pack of the dough (three pieces) and two bottles of Cereal Milk I paid about $15. It is over-priced, but for something this delicious it is totally worth it! Buy once every other month!

Mad for Chicken, NYC

If you like Bon Chon or Kyo Chon (for those who don’t know, they are Korean chicken wings places) and like to drink and listen to good music, then Mad for Chicken is the place for you!

Now you know that I give minimal review and would rather just show the pictures and explain how delicious the food is, but not this time, or at least just for the second part (the picture part). The thing is, this place was really dark, so I didn’t wanna be one of those jerks who take flash pictures. TOO BAD! :)

Okay straight to the review:

The chicken’s amazing, especially the garlic one. If you think you can handle spicy food, then try the spicy sauce, but I have to warn you that it is REALLY SPICY.

The drinks are amazing, especially the soju. Try the lychee soju. If you would rather get beer, get the pitcher, because it lights up and it looks really nice. You’ll end up looking like flies staring at neon lights. I swear.

The music is amazing. Great music.

The ambiance is amazing. Dark. It has a bar/lounge kind of feeling, but is actually a restaurant.

Here are some pictures I found on Google:

Oh disclaimer: This restaurant is on the second floor of a very sketchy building. When you get in YOU WILL GET SCARED, but once you get to the second floor you will be fine. So don’t worry.

Overall, this place is amazing. Check it out!

Gastroarte Ristorante, NYC

A few weeks ago, I went to one of the COOOOLest restaurants I’ve been to in NYC called Gastroarte (previously named Graffit). It is located in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It is basically a Spanish gastronomy restaurant, where they serve you cool and modern food, but Spanish-inspired. I went with my friend who came from Boston and we had such a great time! We got a very friendly waitress who was so excited about us being there, as it was our first time.

On with the food (and pictures)

We got a complementary appetizer, which was fried sweet potato and a bite size stuffed pea pod. Very cute!

We shared an appetizer, which was basically meatballs with fried… I cannot remember what it was, but similar to noodles. But fried until crispy.

Another appetizer we shared was eggplant with fried oysters and a variety of caviar.

This is what I had for main course. Beef (I can;t remember, sorry) with some steamed vegetables and various vegetable pastes, which made it really REALLY interesting.

This is the black rice my friend had for main course. It had a variety of sea food and tasted really delicious! I wish I ordered this instead!

The Pollock (Jackson, of course)! This is one of the shared desserts we had. It is basically vanilla cake with caramel and cream and white chocolate on top.

My favorite dessert! This one’s called Earth, because it looks like soil, as you can see. Those brown stuff are crumbs mixed with, I think, chocolate milk powder, a variety of nuts, orange zest and mint. If you dig in really well, you will find a scoop of vanilla ice cream hidden inside.

Complementary dessert! This place is amazing!

The dessert menu, just in case you are wondering.

Overall, we had an amazing experience! I cannot wait to come back and hopefully bring my family so we can enjoy this Upper West treasure together!

Baked by Melissa, New York

So where can I get cupcakes in New York? Other than the typical Magnolia and Crumbs? Well I tried Buttercup, which was okay. And there’s Sweet Revenge, which I have yet to try. But there is also Baked by Melissa!

The one I went to was located at this super tiny shop in SOHO. Since I was around, I decided to try.

Before we go further, I gotta tell you, the size is SMALL. And I mean SMAAALLLLL.

Do you see my thumb there? Sort of? Well yea that’s how small it is.

The cost of 1 cupcake is $1, which I think is kind of a rip off, but if you buy more the price per cupcake will be cheaper. It’s called ECONOMIES OF SCALE (I minor in econ, so pardon my geeky-ness).

About the taste, it’s actually really good. I think because the cupcakes are really small, they can add more grease without sacrificing the texture of the cake. So yes, the cake it actually quite greasy. The flavors are also quite strong, which I think kind of compromises the size as well. The variety of choices of flavors are pretty wide too.

Check out the website here!

So I think this brand is worth trying, but be prepared for the size. Cos again, they’re tiny.
