Navy Beach, Montauk, New York

Montauk is located a little bit outside of the Hamptons in Long Island. This restaurant by the beach is both beautiful and homey. I love the scenery and the decor it has. Here are some pictures of the place in the afternoon:

And in the morning:

image

image

image

Yes, I went to the place twice :)

These are the food that we had in the afternoon:

Shrimp salad.

image

Scallops with spinach puree.

image

Iceberg lettuce with blue cheese and bacon. I LOVED THIS! If my school serves this I would eat salad everyday.

image

Grilled jalapenos. One of the best side dishes I’ve ever had. It had sea salts, which worked really well with the flavor of the jalapenos.

image

Shrimp over bread with fries. MY FAVORITE!

image

Another type of scallops; this one was grilled instead of raw, like the last one.

image

Grilled salmon over cold noodles.

image

And this was what we had in the morning:

Another version of the lobster over bread with fries, but with creamy sauce and chili.

image

Just so you know, for the afternoon trip, there were 5 of us. Didn’t have them all to myself. Hehe.

Fish & Co., Singapore

Our dear friend, Asyraaf, took these pictures when he went to Fish & Co. in Singapore. I know a lot of you have probably been here, but what makes this one special is because the restaurant is originally from Singapore. So…

Fatty Crab, New York (PICTURES!)

When I wrote about Fatty Crab a few months ago, I didn’t get to post any pictures because my camera wasn’t so good and the photos were all blurry. Then my parents came in the summer and brought their DSLR camera. I went back to Fatty Crab to introduce them to one of the best restaurants in NYC and took better pictures. Here they are:

The duck liver satay with tofu and peanut sauce.

image

Soft shell crab.

image

Beef rendang with rice

image

And the atmosphere that night…

image

I know the pictures are still kind of blurry, but that’s because it was dark in there.

But I hope they’re clear enough for you to want to go to Fatty Crab!

It’s so funny how the quality of MY picture is better than that of the food. It’s a coincidence - don’t worry. Hehehe.

The American Hotel, Sag Harbor at the Hamptons, New York

That was a long title.

I went to the American Hotel when my parents visited me over the summer. We decided to go to the Hamptons because they hadn’t been there (Unlike me! Teehee!) and since we have family friends there, we were all good. The American Hotel is located just a little west of East Hampton, which is the area where we stayed at for a few days. This hotel was located near the beach.

The restaurant was located at the lobby and outside of the lobby. We decided to sit outdoors because the weather was quite good.

I had the lobster sandwich, and it was very fresh and delicious! The dish had a lot of  vegetables and creamy sauce. It wasn’t too creamy though! At the end my stomach felt satisfied. And I have to tell you again, the lobster was VERY FRESH!

image

This is what we had to share; heirloom tomatoes with greens and blue cheese. Again, even though it had blue cheese, it wasn’t fulfilling at all! Proves how fresh it is!

image

My dad had the shrimp cocktail. Again, SO FRESH!!

image

And lastly, the tomato soup. This is what my mom had. I don’t know why, but I just love this picture. It’s not very food-pr0n-y, but the stillness of the soup is really interesting - makes it look clean. lol. apart from looking good, the soup was really good as well. It had lobster pieces, which added more flavor to the tomato.

image

So if ever you decide to visit the Hamptons, don’t forget to visit the American Hotel! Sadly, I didn’t get to check the hotel itself. Maybe next time :)

Katsu-Sei, Jakarta

This place serves the BEST katsu in town. Hands down. The most popular dish is the Pork Katsu Tenderloin , but I also tried the Pork and Shrimp Katsu Set . They were both really good T_T

Served with fresh grind-it-yourself sesame seeds:

California Berry, Iloilo

I really don’t know why my sister and I love frozen yogurt so much. We would practically scour the entire city to go to any frozen yogurt place we can, which is actually not difficult at all since there are like…three frozen yogurt places in this frozen-yogurt-forsaken town.

Hot on the heels of Yogu is California Berry, which, as you may already know, first opened in Manila, and has thankfully decided to come to Iloilo.

image

FROZEN YOGURT WITH GRAHAM CRACKER CRUMBS, CAP’N CRUNCH AND APPLES

That’s what I ordered. It all actually came together well: the cereal for the crunch, the fruit for the flavour, and the random cracker crumbs for the randomness (but also for extra flavour).

image

STRAWBERRY FROZEN YOGURT WITH MANGO, KIWI AND BLUEBERRY

That’s what my sister ordered, and it’s fruit overload! ‘Coz my sister likes it that way. The strawberry yogurt is actually seasonal, meaning that their special seasonal yogurt’s flavour depends on whatever fruit is in season. Really lucky for us that it’s strawberry right now (didn’t know strawberries are in season here) ‘coz we both love strawberry yogurt/ice cream. It was divine.

Anyways, my favourite thing about California Berry is the plethora of yogurt topping choices they offer, that are actually separated by ‘category’: the fruit toppings are separated from the junk food-y (e.g. jelly beans, gummy bears, Butterfinger) toppings, and so on. They even offer Mrs. Fields cookies and Cheesecake Factory cheesecake as toppings! I mean, seriously! Cheesecake as a topping sounds major. I’ll try that the next time I go (which is probably sometime this week).

Also, California Berry yogurt is non-fat and low-calorie, which is good news for, you know, people who like non-fat and low-calorie stuff. :D

For more information on California Berry, visit their website. California Berry in Iloilo is in SM City, Lower Ground Floor.

Later tater!

The Breslin, Ace Hotel, New York

This is a bar in the Ace Hotel, which opened just a few months ago. The place is so cool! The lobby is like a lounge - loud music, dark lighting, trendy-looking people. The receptionists. Oh. My. God. And the hotel also sells nice CDs and furniture accessories. You know what, this place actually has that English atmosphere. I kind of felt like I was in England, but in the hip area, I guess. lol. Like, if you imagine yourself to be in England, but the hip and trendy area of England, you would imagine it to be exactly like this place.

The Breslin Bar is in the lobby. It’s just a bar, but I love the atmosphere and decor. I sat in a closed seating area, which made it look like I was in an old train (like the ones in the movies).

I went here with my parents, just to look around. We didn’t order much because we had food already.

Here are what we had:

Oysters - Delicious, but just like any other oysters. There’s nothing much to say.

image

Sausage wrapped in pastry. This was very English. I liked it. My dad loved it because it reminded him of England (he grew up there).

image

This was the menu for that night.

image

So there you go; The Breslin at the Ace Hotel. I hoped you enjoyed it!

Prospect, San Francisco

Hi!

So Prospect is the sister chain of Boulevard, the San Francisco restaurant that basically highlighted my trip. This was a while ago, so I forgot the taste of the individual dishes, however, I remember that they were good overall. The price was a little bit more expensive than Boulevard ($55 for 3 courses and a drink) and the portion was definitely smaller, but it was still good.

Here are the pictures:

Amicos, Iloilo

Amicos Pizza opened about a week ago in Smallville and my sister and I just happened to be there (we were there for Yogu). I’d been craving for pizza for a while so that was very opportune. :D Amicos is an outdoor store so you kind of just have to deal with the weather when eating there (it was raining when we were there; it rains here every day these days).

image

That’s the Chicken Craze pizza which I ordered. It’s tomato sauce, mozzarella, chicken fillet, mushrooms and onions on thin crust. Both my sister and I were very disappointed with this because it didn’t really taste that good. I mean, when I saw ‘chicken fillet’ on the menu I expected to taste chicken fillet, but I basically tasted nothing but tomato sauce, which was a little too salty for me. My sister said that maybe it’s more of ground chicken than chicken fillet, but either way, no chicken taste present. 10” - P198.00

image

So that is what my sister ordered. It’s called The Emperor and it’s tomato sauce, mozzarella, ground beef, ham, salami, onions and bell pepper on a thin crust. Naturally, we liked this one better, because I could taste the beef and stuff. Still though, their tomato sauce was too salty for me. 10” - P198.00

image

We ordered the Amicos Refresher which is basically a pineapple-and-orange-mix juice. And damn if it wasn’t too sweet. TOO DAMN SWEET. P60.00 - good for two

I think over the years I’ve had lots of bad pizza and I think I’ve become one of those crazy “I’m just not a pizza person” people. The last good pizza I had was almost a year ago in Pizza e Birra in Jakarta (yes, it deserves mention lol), but then again I haven’t had a pizza since. Anyways, maybe the food in Amicos was mediocre ‘coz they’re new and still working out…stuff. So maybe the next time I go the food will have improved.

Later tater!

ABC Kitchen, New York

ABC Kitchen is a restaurant developed by the ABC Carpet & Home, Inc., which is a furniture store. The furniture in this place is GORGEOUS! You guys should check it out!

The restaurant serves various types of food. I went here with my parents and my mom’s old friend and her husband. We all ordered different things, so I have many delicious-looking (and tasting, of course!) food coming up.

I only ate the ones I ordered and also some of my parents’, so I can only show you pictures of what my mom’s friends ordered. Let’s start with mine.

image

This is foie gras on bread with fried leaves. I LOVED IT! The bread was really crisp, and the crust was crunchy - it complements the softness of the foie gras really well. I also like the saltiness of the leaves on top. Really really nice.

image

Pasta with lamb. I loved this pasta a lot because it was different. Instead of beef, the restaurant used lamb, and the sauce that comes with it really goes along with the meat and carb combination. It was overall salty, but then the cream, which you can see on top of the food, made it taste lighter. It also had some kind of seed, which made the dish a little crunchy, which I enjoyed.

These are what my dad had:

image

This was the lobster. I forgot if this was the whole dish, or if there were other things. Because I remember my dad ordered a lot of things. Like this one too:

image

Corn with butter and shaved cheese. AMAZING! I can’t even describe in words how good this dish was. It’s… Wow. Just. Wow. Buttery, salty and cheesy, and the corn…… CORN..!!

image

I think my dad was in a scallop craze in the summer, because whenever he sees scallops in the menu, he’d order it. Haha. Honestly, I forgot how this one tasted. But it looks good though :)

This is what my mom had:

image

Just a simple toasted bread with tomatoes on top. I think the idea is like the one I had (the foie gras), but with tomatoes instead. I remember this one was really refreshing, especially with the olive oil and salt combination. She had another kind of the same dish, but with tiny shrimps on top. The picture is not really good though. So…

And these were what my mom’s friends had:
